It’s always really exciting for everyone involved here at The English Listed when an architectural project is finally finished, we move the project build team out, do our final clean down and take a moment to step back, breathe and quietly admire our hard work.
It’s even – ahem, dare we say it – MORE exciting when it’s our own project, and particularly given one that has been five years in the making, lots of late nights and weekends squeezed in around client projects – which OF COURSE take priority! – but we are thrilled to be able to finally do the big reveal on 17a West Street, affectionately known by the team here at the English Listed as The Pod, our stunning contemporary expression of a fully restored 17th century Grade II Listed building that forms the front of the building housing our shop and offices and now apartment above. The contemporary facade, with its complex form, cedar cladding sliced through with Corten framed glazed openings and deeply pitched shingle roof at the rear of 17 West Street has long received admiring comments from the good people of St Ives and environs, and much intrigue as to what actually lies within. Well, all can now be revealed!
Crafted from a former brewhouse, this stunning town-centre apartment has recently been finished to an exacting contemporary standard and exudes light, calm and space. Situated in the historic market town of St Ives, Cambridgeshire and moments from the town’s stunning quayside and market square, The Pod blends contemporary architecture with a classic period building. With a stunning double height, vaulted atrium hallway, two large double bedrooms and a large open plan kitchen / dining / living space, the apartment offers a beautiful internal roof top terrace, perfect for al fresco breakfasts and evening sun downers!
Stylishly furnished throughout with iconic pieces from both European and British makers, the apartment is decorated in calm, neutral shades and features stunning bespoke joinery and a hand-built kitchen, all by our very own The English Listed joinery shop. Carefully-considered lighting from our exclusive lighting partner Nosta and bespoke ironmongery from Belgian brand, Dauby, again a partner company of ours, feature throughout. A luxurious bathroom, complete with walk-in shower and beautiful feature roll-top bath complete the apartment.
The apartment has recently been photographed for a leading British interiors magazine and is regularly used for photo shoots for interior products.
If you’ve long harboured the desire to restore a listed building and are considering a project, or indeed, if you are looking to extend, or if you simply would like to see the level of finish we can achieve for other building work you have mind, we are currently showing both current and prospective clients the apartment on an appointment basis, as it brilliantly showcases the full range of what we do can both in terms of architecture and build quality, as well as interior finishes.
The apartment is shortly going to be available for short and mid-term lets via AirBNB.com so if you can just see yourself whiling away a peaceful weekend here, you can even spend a night or two in The Pod for yourself. We are looking forward to people using the apartment for weekends away and enjoying all that historical St Ives has to offer, using it as a base for visiting family or attending special occasions, or even as a home away from home for business stopovers.
To view the apartment and discuss ways that we can help with your project, or indeed to find out more about staying at 17 West Street, do get in touch on firstname.lastname@example.org or 01480 301600. We would be delighted to arrange an appointment.
